Nathan Oztov
Appearance: Lean built (thanks to a strict diet and workout routine.) dark skin, black curly hair, undercut. Black sclera (actually a very dark red due to high blood concentration). dimples.
Confident and calm. Sometimes has a habit of sticking himself in other's business. Overall a very nice guy. Too nice. A Perfectionist. The Samaritan.
Formerly a citizen of a faraway city, Nathan followed the footsteps of his famously cryptic family and became a traveler when he turned eighteen, spending most of his time between cities, in the wasteland. His job was going very well until a mutation killed him. He was presumed dead for a few hours, until he woke up with a violent illness, but regardless, he was alive. His most noticable physical change was a change in eye color. Fascinated by this strange recovery, Nathan's team of travelers took him to Evelow, the giant and medically advanced city, for further studies.
Yes, he was indeed dead for several hours, they confirmed through samples that showed decaying tissue, and he remained lower in temperature. Something about his mutation was keeping Nathan alive, so Evelow's medical experts talked Nathan into staying under their observation permanently, thus ending his career as a traveler. It was bound to end anyway, Nathan had a decline in health and needed to be taken care of so much of the time.
Nathan is preoccupying himself with different jobs, and is taking extra time to treat his 'mutations.' he's too positive to call his black eyes such an ugly term though. He needs to recognize and validate when things aren’t okay. Nathan seeks a solution to every problem, and refuses to appear weak in front of people, even though his recent illness that struck him so. Nathan won’t cry. He needs to let himself cry sometimes.
Likes documentaries on ancient civilizations and waking up at 5 in the morning. Dislikes rainy days and excuses. Loves sleek gray-scale clothes. Wears long coats and boots and gloves a lot. Likes reorganizing his book shelf, going through news archives, reading motivational books. He played the piano as a kid, but never played it as he became an adult due to his busy lifestyle. Now that he’s bound to Evelow, he decided he might as well pick it up again.
His parents have hardly been present in his life due to them being travelers, and he has a younger sister (Audrey) who he has gotten closer to recently.
Favorite Color: Dark Gray
Fear: Dolls.
Theme Song: "Wondaland" by Janelle Monáe
Voice: It’s very persuasive, but never strong enough for him to need to ever raise his voice. He keeps his tone very cool and collected but still keeping its personality. It’s deep but nonthreatening.
Relationships
- Audrey - Younger sister who he hasn't met besides a rare family reunion growing up, but since they live in the same city now, Nathan wants to spend more time with her. They're very different people but Nathan goes out of his way to make Audrey happy.
- Celeste - Assistant. Nathan's resurrect case is surely a unique one, so Celeste has taken a great interest in monitoring him. Nathan would love to befriend and get to know her more, but they have to keep their relationship at a professional level.
- Echo - Date. The two of them have went out a few times but due to Nathan's former traveling work, it's been a while since Nathan has been in a long term relationship, so he wants to take it slowly.
- Aurora- There's a reason she's the social elite, Nathan only met her recently and is already paying close attention to her. There has to be a catch, right ?
Who are the Oztovs ?
Nathan is one of many in a extended family who've all made sure to keep the last name in order to stay true to their brand. (except for Audrey.)
Traveling amongst towns and cities has always been a necessity of this world, but generations ago, senior Oztov was a pioneer in reintroducing traveling as an exclusive career for the dedicated few that was to be highly respected. Saving traveling to those willing to risk venturing the wastelands also prevented much of the population to reside safely in their cities, reducing toxic exposure.
Oztov was so committed to traveling they raised their families separately, all with the purpose of becoming travelers of their own when they grew up. Over time through generations, the Oztovs had spent so much time around toxic waste that they were considered "one with nature" and had built up immunities that were passed to their children.
Despite their dedication to the world, they hardly spent time with each other, with the exceptions of occasionally visiting their children or running into a family member on a conference. It's common for an Oztov to not be aware of another's existence, as they are as mysterious to each other as they are to the world.
